I want freedom.
I no longer
consent to being
another Rapunzel
of the digital age.
I don’t want to
build myself
a cage
pretending
to be a castle—
confined to pixels
and frames
and funnels.
Isolated
and performing
throwing our hair
into dark webs
hoping anyone
might climb up
to meet us
in the illusion
of connection
alone in rooms
of blue light—
our tower
perpetrated
by our very
own
hands.
I want to exist
far beyond
the four edges
of your screen.
So I untie
my braids
and cut
my hair
for the birds
to build
their nests
as I slip back
into the sun.
