I'm tending
to my relationship
with time—
for it is one
of the most
intimate
connections
we have.
Every breath
movement
and choice
weaves through her—
so fighting her
rushing her
judging her
rejecting her
neglecting her
has her weeping
while she holds
the knowing
that we could dance
in a much different way.
... And I would like
to dance with her
in a much
different
way.
Let me orient to her
so that we can carve
rivers of love
and life
in harmony
together—
coherent
cohesive
and aligned.
For she is in devotion
to our brilliant blooming,
whispering and watering
our hearts into form
while we are here.
If we stop berating her
for never being enough
or being too much,
we would invite out
her true colors
and allow her to reveal
her graceful nature.
She pauses
and inhales fully
with moments of beauty,
melting into them
with us.
She giggles
when we are silly
and sways
when we sing.
She relaxes
and opens
when we find
her rhythms
and honor
her fluidity—
her crescendos
and her spaces
in between.
She is with us
not an enemy
but a dear friend
a kind mentor
a patient parent
and a love
that sees the best
we have to offer
and will show up
in service to that light—
giving us blank slates
and radical acceptance—
simply waiting
for us to notice
she's been caring for us
this whole time.
She has heard
every heartbeat
and cried with us
every heartbreak—
she is at our backs
encouraging us along
lifting our chins
and nudging us
along the edge
of the expanding universe
into our infinite
potentiality.
She is a wave
with no shore—
carrying us out
and into
everything.
She will meet us
at whatever depth
we meet her.
So I am choosing
to be present with her
in her minutes
hours
days
and years—
and the endless
instant that she
roots from—
fully engaging with
this unique canvas
she gifts us
to move
and pray
and paint upon.
Throughout all
the soft midnights
and sharp noons,
the cycles and
shifting seasons,
the reaching
and the resting,
it will
always be
time and I,
dancing.
